So, now that you’ve seen a few of my posts I figured I should let you know a little bit about me. I am Vanessa Hayes, creator of Get Simplifized! The mantra here is Life: Simplified, Organized. That’s our vision for ourselves and our vision for YOU! I offer tips on how to declutter and organize your home and office space, how to create systems to keep you and your family members organized and how to simplify tasks such as cooking, shopping, filing bills, trip planning, and moving…among other things.
I have been organizing practically all of my life…I guess it’s just in my DNA. I grew up in a military family and that required a LOT of moves and a LOT of teamwork. With my father’s knack for delegation and uncanny ability to work best under pressure and my mother’s incredible ability to plan, multi-task, and decorate, I guess I was raised in an “organization laboratory”! I just took naturally to so many organizational skills; such as how to efficiently prepare for a move, how to plan family trips, delegate chores and how to make each new home a special and comfortable place to live…all on a military family’s budget. I guess I was just destined to become a professional organizer.
My penchant for organization first led me to become a military officer. During my nine years of service I learned even more organizational skills. Leading anywhere from 25 to 200 (+) personnel, it was essential for me to be organized. With each office move I learned to simplify procedures and streamline my space! I purged outdated records, simplified processes and information flow, rearranged furniture and decorated my space to make it a more peaceful environment. While I loved the job I gotta admit I couldn’t stand drab military offices…so I figured if I was going to spent 60-80 hours per week at work I should make it as comfortable as possible. And comfort for me is being organized.
It is a tremendous joy for me to be able to help others. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “Oh, Vanessa, you’ve got to come over to help me organize and decorate my home and office.” It happened so often that I finally realized this is truly my calling. So, after all that time spent on Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, I finally figured out what I wanted to do when I grow up!!!!
Now, as one on those lucky ones who has built a lifestyle where I can work from home, I’ve focused a lot of my attention on how to run a smooth office and household by creating home organization systems, establishing routines, managing family/work calendars and events, and designing with efficiency in mind. I also like to focus on fun things too like doing projects with my kids, baking, and working out to stay fit.
So, that’s me and that’s the genesis for Get Simplifized! I know most people didn’t have experiences like mine and organization doesn’t come naturally to most people. We’re all blessed with different skills, talents, and abilities (I’m a terrible car mechanic, by the way!) But, honestly, I’m the best person I know at organizing and breaking things down in a simple way for you to get consistent results. So, I really wanted to share some of that with my readers. I hope you enjoy my blog. Expect to see anything from a quick organization tip or a simple cooking recipe, to an easy project to do with your kids, how to repurpose items in your home, or how to use tech gadgets/apps and much, much more.
