I have an incredibly symbiotic relationship with my husband. He researches and finds really cool tech gadgets…then I get to exploit them and share them with you! One of his many finds is Alltop.
It’s kind of like a search engine…but not. Alltop describes itself as “an online magazine” that collects articles by topic or subject. What’s different about Alltop is that instead of you having to search for your favorite websites and subscribing to each one of them individually via RSS feed (RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication” and there’s usually an RSS subscribe button on the blogs/sites you visit), Alltop finds all the latest headlines and stories for you from the best sites and blogs that cover a topic. Luckily, Get Simplifized! is one of them! It then groups (“aggregates”) those headlines into individual web pages. All you have to do is search by topic like: organizing, fashion, parenting, food, cooking, travel, business, finance, etc. Alltop then pulls up a page that lists a bunch of websites related to that topic along with the top five most recent headlines for each site. You can skim over a headline and it will give you the first paragraph to give you an idea of what the article is about.
My husband described it to me like this,”You know when you read a newspaper, you jump right to your favorite part? Well, Alltop is like jumping right to your favorite part of the newspaper…but better! You’re pulling from a bunch of different newspapers.”
Yes, yes. You know I love all things Google, but I find myself using Alltop more than my Google Reader because it’s so simple to use and does all the work for you. You can even set up your own Alltop page of your favorite sites and share them with your friends. Check out my Get Simplifized! Alltop site….and then create your own. It’s free! You can even share your Alltop page with me if you’d like by sending it to email@example.com.
So, when you want look up a topic of interest to you, give Alltop a try. I bet you’ll love it! Happy reading!
