Just A Little Dab Of Color May Be All You Need

I’ve always agreed with the idea that colors can affect your mood. I personally noticed this when I lived in Germany. The predominantly overcast, cloudy and gray weather would really affect my mood and give me the “blues.” I would actually go to the tanning booth for a little fake sun to literally, brighten up my day…and my spirits! Germany is a very beautiful and wonderful country that unfortunately is overcast most days of the year except for maybe two months in the summer. Looking back I can understand now why the Germans seemed to pour out of the wooodwork in the summer to enjoy the weather…and to celebrate in their non-stop summer festivals! Those were good times! So, with my experience with color, it should be no surprise why I’m much happier with my laundry room room since I’ve added a bit of color to it.

You see, my husband and I have a modest home that we’ve managed to decorate simply, yet beautifully….except for that darn laundry room!!! It was so boring and ugly. And dare I say it? It looked cluttered! Naturally it drove this professional organizer up the wall! So I asked my husband if we could please, please invest a tiny bit of money into some cabinets to make it more functional and pleasing to the eye. Although very reluctant to spend any more money on this home now that we have some land and our sights set on building our dream home…my husband agreed to invest in the cabinets. But then we saw the sticker price for cabinets and I just couldn’t justify it. So I told my husband I would come up with plan B.

What was Plan B you ask? It simply comprised of finding some baskets, containers and a few accessories in one of my favorite colors…GREEN! That’s it. That’s all I needed and boy did it make a difference in my mood. A space that I would dread going into and never spent more than a few seconds in, I now use practically every day to fold laundry and even do small crafts and projects in.

As you can see, it wasn’t a huge or dramatic overhaul but just enough change to make a difference for me…and my husband too. He can find all of those miscellaneous and randomly placed items now that I’ve got things contained and labeled. Who would’ve thought something so simple could have such an impact? I didn’t need a renovation…I just needed a little organization…and some color! This is what organizing is all about!
